Prince George, BC - Prince George RCMP, Victim Services and Community Policing are calling on girls between the ages of 10 and 15 to lace up their sneakers and join the fun...
The Run for Fun, that is.
RCMP Victim Services Coordinator, Krista Levar, says the program runs in the spring and fall and focuses on fitness, but also provides an opportunity to reach out to girls in a positive way.
Over the eight week spring session, participants meet twice per week. "Each session begins with a speaker who will discuss an important issue our youth are facing, including: drug and alcohol awareness, internet/phone safety, cyber-bullying and gang awareness," says Levar. "We also discuss the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, promote healthy eating and the benefits of staying active."
Then the girls break into training groups and go for a run - with the goal being to have each girl complete a 5-kilometre run at the end of the eight weeks.
Levar says the program is free of charge thanks to funding from Integris Credit Union.
Registration for the spring session is now open. A registration night will be held at the Community Policing Office at 575 Brunswick Street on Wednesday, April 11th from 5pm until 7pm. For more information, phone 250-561-3373 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
