Langley, B.C. - The Valley West Hawks scored three times in the third period to earn a come-from-behind 4-3 win over the Cariboo Cougars Friday night in the first game of their best-of-three BC Major Midget League quarter-final series.

Riley Pettit and Bryan Allbee in the second and Chase Dubois in the third gave the Cougars a 3-1 lead with less than 16 minutes to play, but the Hawks stormed back for the win in Langley.

Davis Koch scored twice for the Hawks, once in the first to open the scoring and once with seven minutes to go in the game to start the comeback. Ty Westgard tied it up with less than three minutes to play and Matt Bradley scored the winner with 31 ticks on the clock.

Lane Delfs made 42 saves for the Cougars, while Kyle Cheema blocked 27 shots for the Hawks.

The teams face off again tonight in Game 2, a must-win situation for the Cougars as they look to keep their season alive and force a third and deciding contest Sunday morning.
